CHRIST'S CHURCH YOUTH MINISTRY
SUMMER INTERNSHIP COVENANT

As a Christian, you are presented with choices everyday choices that when made will enable you to fit in or cause you to stand out. By choosing to become a part of the Summer Internship at Christ's Church, you are indicating your desire to stand out. Others will be looking to you and your life must represent Christ to them.
This covenant exists to provide guidelines for you to follow as you strive to be an example for Christ. It is designed to not only advance the Kingdom of God through you, but also to see you advance in the Kingdom as you let God work in you. This covenant is between you and God under the authority of Christ's Church's youth pastor. By agreeing to this covenant, you will be choosing, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, to make every effort to live your life above reproach. Romans 12:1 makes the following statement about this effort, "Therefore, I urge you brothers in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship."
The following statements represent choices, not rules. They represent freedom in Christ to be committed people of character; competent in the things set before us. In doing this, what a witness we will be to the unbeliever and what a challenge to the believer!

I. The leader must reflect a desire to be committed.
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest
with very little will also be dishonest with much" (Luke 16:10).

Commitment is indicated in the following ways:
1. You must attend all meetings. If you are unable to attend, you must contact Pastor Chris prior to the meeting.
2. You must be committed to daily reading of the Word and journaling of that time.
3. You must be committed to daily, personal prayer and journaling of that time.
4. You must attend church, youth services, and activities regularly. If you are unable to attend, you must contact Pastor Chris prior to the meeting.

II. The leader's character must be worthy of imitation and able to be set forward as an example.
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in
speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12).

A life worthy of imitation is indicated in the following ways:

1. You must have a good reputation and be above reproach. This includes being trustworthy, using controlled speech, and living a life that is separate from any appearance of evil.
"Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who
call on the Lord out of a pure heart" (2 Timothy 2:22).

2. You must be free from substance abuse, alcohol, tobacco products, and mood altering drugs.
"Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me
but I will not be mastered by anything" (1Corintians 6:12).

3. You must refrain from entertainment which does not meet the standard found in Philippians 4:8.
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is
lovely, whatever is admirable (of good report) - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about
such things" (Philippians 4:8).

4. You must understand the spiritual principles of godly authority and submission; and be respectful. This includes bringing all relationships under the accountability of Pastor Chris. If in a boy/girl relationship or pursuing one, both parties must meet or correspond with Pastor Chris weekly for accountability.
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which
God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God" (Romans 13:1).

5. As by Christ's example, imitate a life of service, considering others' needs above your own.
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem
others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the
interests of others" (Philippians 2:3-4).

III. A leader's desire should always be to live worthy of the call as we work toward a greater level of competence.
" I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received" (Ephesians 4:1).

Worthiness is indicated by one's actions and reactions concerning sin:
1. Sin issues, rebellion to this covenant, intentional sin, sexual immorality or the like, may result in removal from leadership.
